Assembling Traveling Award with Base Extension

Adding the base extension to your award is really easy. In essence, it is just a matter of removing the figure on top from the larger, older base, attaching the figure to the new base extenstion, attaching the rod, and securing the top and new base extension to the older base. If you are getting the base extension with a new award, it's the same process except that you don't have to take the old award apart. Let's take a look at the steps in detail.

Tool You Will Need

The tool you will need is a long nut driver, with a 7/16" socket. Alternately, you could use a regular socket with an extender. The key is that the socket has to be 7/16" (the right size to use with a quarter-inch nut), and it has to be long enough to reach through the height of the base of your trophy.

Remove the Nut

If you are receiving the base extension with a new award, Using your hand, remove the nut at the bottom of the figure that is to be attached to the large wooden bases.

If you are adding the base extension to an old award, you will need to use the nut driver or socket with extension to remove the nut holding the figure to the old base.

Do NOT lose the nut! You will need it later!

Place Figure on Base

Place the figure on the base extension, inserting the rod on the bottom of the figure through the small hole in the top of the base extension.

Attach Rod and Ferrel Nut

Using your hand, attach the 4" rod and ferrel nut (the nut that has the rod attached to it, as seen in the picture) to the rod from the figure. It is not critical that the ferrel nut screw all the way up the rod against the base; in fact, with some figures, the ferrel nut will not reach it - that's OK. The important thing is that there is enough of the 4" rod to stick through the hole on top of the larger base.

Attach Extension to Base

Lay the larger base on its side. Set the figure and base extenstion on top of the larger base, with the figure facing the front (the side with the title plate on the larger base). The bottom of the 4" rod needs to go through the hole on top of the larger base.

Attach the Nut

Use your tool (nut driver or socket) to reach through the bottom of the larger base and attach the nut (that you did not lose from above!) to the bottom of the 4" rod that went into the hole on top of the larger base. Only tighten the nut enough for a firm hold - do not over tighten. Adjust as necessary so that the base extension is straight on the larger base, and that the figure on top is positioned as you want it.

Pretty easy, huh?!?
